Gennady Stolyarov II, FSA, ACAS, MAAA, CPCU, ARe, ARC, API, AIS, AIE, AIAF, is the Lead Property and Casualty Actuary for the State of Nevada, Department of Business and Industry, Division of Insurance. During nearly eleven years of experience, Mr. Stolyarov has reviewed several thousand rate and form filings from property and casualty insurers, as well as over a hundred predictive models in areas such as credit-based insurance scoring, usage-based automobile insurance, and peril-specific rating. He also reviews captive insurer applications and insurers’ proposals for business-plan changes, assists with monitoring Nevada domestic companies’ financial condition, provides input on financial examinations, and frequently responds to inquiries regarding Nevada insurance statutes and regulations.
Mr. Stolyarov has developed reports for the Nevada Legislature and informational materials for consumers, and spearheaded the first initiative in the United States to publicly post insurers’ home and private passenger automobile policy forms on a State website. Mr. Stolyarov actively participates on NAIC Task Forces, which have, at various times, included the Casualty Actuarial and Statistical Task Force, the Surplus Lines Task Force, the Reinsurance Task Force, and the Workers’ Compensation Task Force.
As part of his independent endeavors in support of the actuarial community, Mr. Stolyarov has published numerous actuarial exam study guides, most of which are freely available online, and has contributed short stories to the Society of Actuaries’ Speculative Fiction Contests.
